Take Action: Tell Congress to Stop Bullying in Schools

Join SALDEF today and ensure Sikh American children have a brighter future tomorrow.

Every day thousands of Sikh American children go to school proudly wearing their articles of faith. Sadly, many endure harassment and bullying as a result of their unique identity. Stop abuse and harassment in schools today. Raise your pen AND take a stand with SALDEF today! Tell your Senator and Congressman to support The Safe Schools Improvement Act AND say no to bullying. Encourage all American children to welcome and embrace diversity.

What is SSIA?

The Safe Schools Improvement Act, SSIA, is landmark legislation that would require all schools to tackle bullies head on and put anti-bullying policies into place that would protect Sikh American students against harassment and abuse. The SSIA would also require states to report information on bullying and intimidation to the Department of Education so that incidents can be addressed and tracked properly. Share your Sikh American story with your Congressman today.

But don’t we already have laws in place?

Some states do have laws, but there is no comprehensive uniform standard that protects ALL of our children against bullying and harassment. There is currently NO national law that addresses bullying and harassment in school.

Why do we need SSIA?

No Sikh American child should go to school feeling unsafe. No Sikh American child should go to school and have to accept intimidation or abuse. No Sikh American child should say, “Well what can I do? I’m different.” Sikh American children are the future leaders of this nation. As Americans we have the right to maintain our Sikh AND American identities freely without fear.
