School Bullying
For Sikh Americans, school bullying is a serious concern. When Sikh students are forced to endure harassment and physical violence at school—often in connection with post-9/11 bias—they are at risk for poor academic performance, low self-esteem, social withdrawal, and even suicide. Bullying is not a normal part of childhood, and the Sikh American community must take a more active role in speaking out about the problem.
