Sikh American Community Education

Community education and awareness programs are critical to developing an active and informed population of Sikh Americans.   Know Your Rights workshops are designed to inform Sikh Americans about their civil rights  and also strengthen  relationships between local Sikh American communities and  government officials, including representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and local school and law enforcement officials.

In recent years, SALDEF has organized Know Your Rights Forums in the following states:

• California
• Florida
• Illinois
• Indiana
• Maryland
• New Jersey
• Pennsylvania
• Virginia
• Texas

Sikh American students face unique challenges in their daily lives.  To help students, we offer several youth-oriented programs focused on ways to avoid school bullying.
