Sikh American Statement on the Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Washington, DC) – The Sikh American community joins the nation in remembering all the victims of the tragic attacks on our country ten years ago on September 11, 2001, and in honoring all those first responders who risked and gave their lives to save others. We also honor all those impacted by the events following September 11th. Like Americans of all faiths and backgrounds, the Sikh American community was attacked twice, first as Americans and again by those who wished to divide our country based on religion, ethnicity, and background.  We honor all victims of post-9/11 backlash, from those who lost their lives to hate, like Balbir Singh Sodhi, to those who suffered and continue to suffer from discrimination and bullying. The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) encourages all Americans to remember the unity that filled the nation and the respect for our common American values of equality, freedom, and diversity. ##END##
