Grant Writer (Part-time)

The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) is seeking a part-time Grant Writer to identify grant opportunities for a small non-profit organization to support the growth of the organization; research grant requirements and proposals; complete grant applications, write grant proposals and reports.

Responsibilities:

  1. Identify potential funding sources in collaboration with the Executive Director,  Management Team and staff
  2. Work in collaboration with SALDEF’s Proposal Committee, Executive Director and Management Team in preparing proposals for foundations
  3. Write and edit proposals, letters of inquiry and budget narratives for foundations
  4. Assess and identify components and information required to assemble successful submissions and prepare instruction/guidance for collaborating program and development staff members
  5. Tailor and edit existing proposals to meet specific guidelines and submission requirement for prospective funders
  6. Craft persuasive, strong and concise narratives, including sourcing appropriate research to clarify needs within the field
  7. Effectively articulate outcomes and interpret existing program and financial information
  8. Support the on-going financial development of the organization
  9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.




Qualifications/Skills:

  • B.A or B.S. degree with three years of experience of grant writing required from the beginning to the end of the process
  • Proven track record of successful grant awards including private, corporate, and/or public foundations
  • Excellent writing and research skills; ability to collect and collate information from a variety of sources
  • Well-organized, efficient, and demonstrated ability to produce high quality and timely deliverables
  • Demonstrated project management experience; ability to manage multiple projects, some with short deadlines, simultaneously
  • Detail oriented individual who excels at tracking complex projects over time, and can demonstrate project completion success.
  • Strong research and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Experience with writing and coordinating private foundation grants and/or cooperative agreements
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, as necessary
  • Available to work an average of 10 – 20 hours per week with a commitment of 2 to 6 months.
